Greetings everyone, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple, yet delicious libations. This week we’re adding a little something to the kalimotxo, a super drinkable mixture of cola and wine commonly consumed by the youths of Spain.

I like these or Luxardo.
Though mixing wine and Coke might sound a little uncouth, I assure you it is quite tasty, and I’ve taken it upon myself to add a bit of fancy cherry syrup straight from the jar of fancy cherries. This is, after all, a teenage drink, and nothing reminds me of angsty hormonal dates at the movie theatre quite like cherry cola. Spanish teens don’t mess with fancy bar ware, and neither should you. Just grab a big ol’ glass, a spoon for stirring, and the following ingredients:
- 100mL cheap red wine (Feel free to scale this up or down, just make sure you have equal parts wine and cola.)
- 4 bar spoons of the syrup from the cherries
- 100mL Coca-Cola (the kind in the fancy glass bottle)
Add the wine and the syrup to your glass of choice and stir until the syrup is completely incorporated. Add in crushed ice, and top with Coke. Stir gently to incorporate, top with a couple of fancy cherries, and enjoy.
