How To Make The McDonald's McRib At Home

The McDonald's McRib is a fan favourite in the US, but its appearance in Australia has been extremely fleeting, with multi-year dry spells between each appearance. But never fear: this homemade version is easy to make and tastes even better.

J. Kenji López-Alt at Serious Eats took on the popular McRib burger from McDonald's with his own, advanced version: the Ribby McRibface. To make your own deluxe McRib, you'll need some baby back ribs, pork shoulder, barbecue dry rub, barbecue sauce, onion, pickles and some buns.

According to López-Alt, the secret to making perfectly textured and flavorful McRib-like patties is to grind already barbecued baby back ribs with raw pork shoulder. That adds an extra smoky flavour to the patties before they even hit the grill. There are plenty of homemade versions of the McRib, but this one is guaranteed to please. The process is fairly lengthy, so we won't try to explain it all here, but you can see all the steps in the video above or at the link below.
