Apple has launched a new Twitter account, @AppleSupport, so you can skip the Genius Bar queues – or make random complaints about all sorts of stuff based on what we’ve seen so far.
Late last week, Apple opened an all-new twitter account, @applesupport, so they can “provide tips, tricks and helpful information when you need it most.” Of course, “when you need it most” needs to fit their 5am-8pm PST office hours. Still, that is a reasonable window of time given the 19 hour time difference between Cupertino and the Australian east coast or 16 hours for the west coast. Support via Twitter is only available in English at the moment.
However, it seems the account has already become a new channel for all sorts of complaints coming in. So, as well as receiving tech support calls, they are receiving complaints about how much Apple charges for some products and people simply asking Apple for money because they’ve been inconvenienced by their products.
For some issues, I’m still more likely to check Apple’s support site or visit a Genius Bar if that’s convenient. However, I can see how support over Twitter can be useful when I’m travelling or I can’t get to a Genius Bar.
