Camouflage has some of features that the Classic, free Desktop Curtain version doesn’t — such as living in your menubar, preserving your desktop background image, and hotkey support. However, the free Camouflage version is no longer being developed and the app is now $1.99.
The free version of Desktop Curtain works on multiple screens and one Space or all Spaces. It not only puts a “curtain” over your icons to hide them, like Camouflage, but can also be used to place an image or different background behind your icons, or as a layer between an open window and your icons. Desktop Curtain Classic only allows you to use either the default green curtain or switch to a solid colour background of your colour choosing, which might be enough for some people.
If you want to use a custom background image or your current wallpaper, scale images, use hotkeys, or run the app as a dock application or menubar app, you’ll need to invest $US1.99 in this useful utility.
