Virgin Blue Busted By ACMA For Mailing List Issues

Trying to unsubscribe from a mailing list and having your request ignored is always frustrating, so it’s good to know that the Spam Act has some real teeth to it. Regulator ACMA has accepted an enforceable undertaking from airline Virgin Blue to improve its systems after numerous complaints from people who have attempted unsuccessfully to leave its mailing list.

As well as undertaking to overhaul its systems, Virgin Blue has paid a $110,000 fine — which should be a useful reminder to anyone else running a mailing list that having a functional unsubscribe system is a legal requirement in Australia. Virgin Blue is no stranger to email snafus, so any improvement to its system will be welcome.
