Menulog Are Slinging Eats For Less Than $10, But There’s One Problem

As Jeff Goldblum once said: “Menulog, uh… finds a way.” Perfectly summing up my experience with cooking dinner, food delivery services somehow find a way into my weekly eating plans – mostly because I am too lazy to cook. That’s not the cheapest way to live, but it is the most convenient. What if I only had to pay a tenner?

Menulog data shows that everybody is getting in on the food delivery craze, with orders on the service up 57% since 2015. That’s a pretty decent jump – and to be honest – my personal food delivery ordering is probably up 400%, so I like to think that I’ve contributed in some way.

The ‘log are also menuflogging that they have ~almost~ half a million dishes priced between $10 and $20, which has help them put together a Cheapest Eats list of food across Australia that will cost less than $10 (besides you, Black Bean Chicken from Four Seasons Asian in WA).

Of course, it all depends where you live in Australia, so you can’t just go ordering some of these dishes from their Cheapest Eats willy-nilly. It’s nice to get a top ten, Menulog, but not everyone can use it? We need a top ten for each state! For each city… We need one for each suburb! (And I’ve been told that data is on it’s way, thanfully!)

I mean, look at the chicken caesar in the header image – that looks delicious. It’s only eight dollars. Pity it is only available at Winmalee Pizza in New South Wales – which is nowhere near me.

The one problem that Menulog currently has is that it’s too hard to research these things yourself. For instance, I just wanted to order some lunch, but I can’t refine my search criteria in each individual restaurant to give me results by price. That seems like a massive oversight – and complicating things further is the fact that most of these restaurants actually require you to order a minimum amount of food.

If you’re using Menulog, you’ve got to be spending at least $20 to get that food delivered anyway, so these Cheap Eats are good on their lonesome – or if you want to head in to pick them up – but they’re not quite that helpful if you’re trying to save a penny. That’s not necessarily Menulog’s fault (that’s a min. spend set by the restaurants) and there are plenty of places that don’t charge that delivery!
