I Hope We’re All Adding Liqueur To Our Coffee

A lot of you have been sharing your newfound work-from-home tips, but you merely adopted working from home. I was born in it. Moulded by it. I have been doing this for years, and I’m good at it.

One obvious advantage of the WFH lifestyle is utter control over one’s environment. This includes temperature, lighting and noise levels, but it can also make simple things—like coffee breaks—a little more indulgent. What I’m saying is, you should be spiking your morning coffee with alcohol. Honestly, if not now, when?

With everything that’s going on right now, a little something to take the edge off before logging onto Twitter or turning on the news definitely qualifies as what influencers call “self care.” Chocolate syrup is also advisable, because it tastes good. Combining the two? Well, that’s just good sense.

Coffee is often paired with Bailey’s, Kahlua and the like, but let me make the case for cherry liqueur—particularly the sweeter Hearing-style stuff. Mix that with a generous spoonful of chocolate syrup and strong drip coffee, and you have a morning beverage that tastes exactly like a chocolate covered cherry and gets you a little buzzed. The coffee intensifies the chocolate which, in turn, smooths out any bitterness from the brew. It’s magical.

To make it, you will need:

  • A cup of coffee

  • 1 ounce cherry liqueur

  • 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup

Add liqueur and syrup to a cup of hot coffee and stir. You can add cream if you want, but there’s really no need. Repeat as needed.
