Start Your Weekend With The Good News

News is usually bad, but today, the news is good. The news is so good, in fact, that I feel like drinking about it, and I would like to invite you all to join me. To celebrate this good feeling coursing through my body due to the good news, I’m mixing up a strong but luxurious whiskey-based cocktail which I am calling—unsurprisingly—“The Good News.”

The proportions for this drink were given to me by my good friend and favourite bartender, Dan Casto, which I very much appreciate, since I spent a lot of this week trying to generate the good news, and it was nice of him to lighten my labour load. Also, it’s a very good cocktail. It’s kinda sweet, a little herbaceous, and — considering how it does not play in terms of ABV — surprisingly easy drinking. To make one yourself, you will need:

  • 60 mL bottled-in-bond bourbon

  • 15 mL Cynar

  • 15 mL Benedictine

Add everything to a glass filled with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a lowball over a big rock, and celebrate the good news.
