Dealhacker: Optus Has An 80GB Phone Plan For $55

If you already own a spanking new smartphone and are looking for a new SIM-only plan with heaps of data, Optus is keen to hear from you. The telco has launched a new Sim-only plan that boasts monthly data inclusions of 80GB for under $60! Here are the details.

Optus’ new $55 plan is part of the new My Promo Plus range which carry a 12-month contract. If $55 a month is too steep, there’s also a $35 plan with 30GB of data and a $45 plan with 50GB.

All three plans come with unlimited standard national calls and texts, a free subscription to Optus Sport, unmetered music streaming on Google Play Music, iHeartRADIO and Spotify, free access to the National Geographic app and free international calls and texts to 35 selected countries. (The $35 plan gets you 300 minutes, whereas the other two plans are unlimited.)

You can also add unmetered streaming of Netflix, Stan and ABC iView for an additional $5 per month. (This does not include the subscription fees for the aforementioned services, however.)

All in all, these are top shelf plans if your specific requirements involve lots of data per month and free international calls. The pick of the bunch is the $55 plan which nets you an additional 20GB of data for just $10 extra per month.

Here’s how the plan compares to other options with a similar amount of data:

As you can see, the $55 Optus My Promo Plus plan trumps all comers with the exception of Think Mobile which runs on the Vodafone network. That plan will save you around $8 per month, although it arguably comes at the expense of customer service. (For example, if you run into any problems with your Oprus plan, you can simply walk into an Optus store and speak to an actual human.)
