The Proper Way To Eat A Steamed Artichoke

Steamed artichokes can seem a little alien if you’ve never had one before, but they are a fun meal once you know how to eat them right. This video shows you the right way to get the meat off of the leaves, and how to get to the tasty heart.

We’ve shown you how to quickly prep the heart and stems of an artichoke before, but this video from the ZAGAT YouTube channel and chef Chris Beischer demonstrates the right way to attack a whole steamed artichoke that you’d either make at home or order in a nice restaurant. Use your teeth to strip the meat off of the lower part of each leaf. You can also dip that portion of the leaf into some melted butter or sauce for extra flavour. Once you’ve eaten most of the leaves, you can get to the heart. Be sure to remove the fuzzy “choke” off the top, and the rest of the heart is edible and delicious.
