Dealhacker: Get Your Pet Desexed On The Cheap This Month

July is National Desexing Month. This is bad news for dogs’ bollocks but excellent news for your wallet — throughout July, veterinarians around Australia will be “snipping” prices on desexing operations. Deals range from half price cat/dog desexing to an invitation to make your own offer. Read on for a list of participating clinics and their prices.

In a bid to encourage pet desexing, various vet clinics in Australia have reduced desexing prices for the entire month of July. The offer applies to dogs, cats and even rabbits in select clinics. (Guinea pigs, iguanas and hermit crabs are presumably off the hook.)

“During the 2014 National Desexing Month, participating vet clinics around Australia will promote desexing and generously offer special deals to encourage the community to desex their pet in July before the spring breeding season,” the National Desexing Network (NDN) explains.

“The aim is to help prevent the thousands of unwanted cats and dogs which are killed in pounds and shelters each year.”

There are multiple participating clinics in each state and territory, which should make it relatively easy to find a special in your area. Just make sure that the clinic provides a discount on the specific operation you’re looking for. (i.e. — Some clinics are only offering deals on cats, for example.)

Prices vary from clinic to clinic, with the available discounts ranging from 10 per cent off to half-price. There are also quite a few terms and conditions unique to each clinic, including healthcare/concession card requirements and restrictions on certain days of the week.

Luckily, the NDN has collated a list of participating clinics in Australia, along with their prices and stipulations. Click here to see the full list. The NDN has promised to update its list as more clinics pledge their services. You can also call the service on 1300 368 992 if you can’t find a vet near you on the list.

“We may be able to put you in contact with another clinic that participates in our program year round or we can refer you to another low cost desexing program near you.”
