The Tech Skills Most Sought By Australian Employers

Last week we showed you the skills most sought by global technology companies worldwide, based on LinkedIn search data for the most in-demand employers. LinkedIn has now released data on the most in-demand employers in Australia, which provide some useful hints at the technology areas worth pursuing if you want employment without leaving out shores.

Below we have shown the tech employers amongst the top 20 in-demand employers according to LinkedIn’s rankings, and the skills most sought within those companies. (Where that company was also on the global list, the skills sought are the same.)

Rank Company Skills sought
3 Google Distributed systems, Python, Google AdWords
6 Microsoft Cloud computing, partner management, enterprise software
8 NBN Co Stakeholder management, project delivery, transmission
15 Apple iLife, iWork, OS X
20 HP IT service management, service delivery, pre-sales

The Australian rankings order companies differently than globally (worldwide, Apple beat Microsoft). Australia’s overall ranking was dominated by mining and construction, with Rio Tino and Leighton Holdings taking the top two positions. Apple’s highlighting of iLife and iWork makes marginally more sense now that software is being given away free to all hardware purchasers.
