It’s a struggle that has plagued humanity ever since we realised that hard-boiled eggs are a nutritious package of protein: how do you cleanly get the shell off? The last thing you want is to crunch down on an errant fleck. Today we test some common tips that will supposedly make your eggs easier to peel.
We tried a few methods to help us slip out of our shells: poking a hole in the bottom of the egg, adding baking soda to the boiling water, and shaking an egg in a jar or glass of water. Bear in mind our testing wasn’t rigorously scientific and your results may vary, but most methods ended up being more trouble than they were worth.
