Ripen An Avocado In Minutes By Warming It In The Oven

When an avocado isn’t as ripe as you want it to be and you just can’t wait to eat it, try this trick to get that avocado ripe in no time.

Bare Cupboard Basics explains the process in the video above. First tightly wrap the avocado in tinfoil. Because avocados — like bananas and other fruits — release ethylene gas, wrapping the avocado tightly essentially surrounds the avocado in its own ethylene gas, speeding up the ripening process. Low heat helps too: Put the avocado in a baking dish in the oven at 90C and check its progress at about 10 minutes or sooner until the avocado is perfectly ripe.

Warming the avocado does change the taste a little, so you might want to use this for recipes where the avocado is cooked, rather than eaten raw, such as the egg-in-an-avocado baked dish.
