When it launched less than a month ago, the PlayStation Classic video game console cost a steep $149.99. It’s now just $87 at the PlayStation Store – a saving of over $60!

You will need to be quick, however: the deal ends at midnight tonight.

Update: Sony has extended its PlayStation Classic deal to January 14. Click here!

The PlayStation Classic is a retro remake of the original ‘PlayStation One’ console with 20 inbuilt games. Here’s the full list:

  • Battle Arena Toshinden
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby
  • Final Fantasy 7
  • Grand Theft Auto
  • Intelligent Qube
  • Jumping Flash!
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Mr Driller
  • Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
  • Rayman
  • Resident Evil Director’s Cut
  • Revelations: Persona
  • Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
  • Syphon Filter
  • Tekken 3
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
  • Twisted Metal
  • Wild Arms

As you can see, there are quite a few classics missing from the lineup. (No Wipeout? No Crash Bandicoot? Tch.) This made the $150 asking price a bit of a tall order.

However, at the current price of $87 we’d say the console is well worth splurging on. You’ll get hours of entertainment from Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7. Tekken 3, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo also remain highly playable.

There have been grumblings about some of these games running PAL emulations rather than the superior NTSC – but seeing as most Aussie gamers only ever played the former, it’s not a huge deal in my opinion.

In any event, the machine is reportedly easy to hack – so you can always add your own games when you tire of the inbuilt offerings.

As mentioned, the offer ends on January 7. Click here to buy!
