Coles is looking to bring bargain-basement hooch to the masses via the launch of a new budget liquor store chain. The appropriately named Liquor Market will sell a modest range of alcohol with an emphasis on low prices: just like the supermarket chain Aldi. Here’s what you need to know.
Australia’s love affair with cheap prices is set to infect our bottle shops with the launch of Liquor Market: a new liquor store sub-brand from LiquorLand owner Coles. Intriguingly for cash-strapped winos, the emphasis is firmly on low prices. As the new franchise explains on its website:
“We keep it simple and we keep our costs low, so you pay less. We are your local Liquor Market. Low cost and so much more.”
The stores will host regular in-store events where customers can get to know the producers, distillers and brewers who have partnered with the store. Attendance to all of these events will be free.
There will also be tastings and “masterclasses.” These will include learning to identify different types of ale, cocktail tutorials and how to make moonshine. (We made that last one up, obviously.)
Currently, Liquor Market is being trialed at a single Ringwood location in Melbourne but there are plans to expand nationally. You can check out the website here.

Interesting take on their customer base.
Their first store is in Ringwood – they know their customer base well.
What are you talking about – its in the “Chadstone of the East”, right near the Salvos store, the Off Ya Tree bong shop, and the Savers store. Oh, wait…
I hope they’re not going to ‘Bunnings’ all the local bottleshops out of buisness.
