Video: We’re well into summer, and I cannot seem to get enough frozen foods in my mouth. Granitas, which are basically “elevated slushies”, are perhaps the easiest way to do that, and you can make them with almost any liquid.
You can eat granitas one their own, with a spoon, but they also work well in cocktails, on fruit salads or as a fancy-pants garnish for oysters. You can dress ’em up (strawberry with Angostura bitters, anyone?) or dress ’em down (perhaps Mountain Dew granita on your nachos?). The world is your oyster, and you are free to top your oyster with whatever granita you can imagine.
The video above breaks it down completely, but all you need is a flavorful liquid, a bit of salt or other seasonings and a freezer. Once everything is set, scrape with a fork and enjoy your icy masterpiece.
