Grill Grapefruit To Take Away The Bitterness

Grapefruit is a delicious citrus fruit that can be enjoyed any time of the day, not just at breakfast. If you like grapefruit but don’t care for its characteristic bitterness, CHOW has a tip: put it under the grill. It takes the edge off.

As the video above explains, all you have to do is cut a slice off one side (so it doesn’t roll around), cut a circle around where the flesh meets the pith, and put it in the oven under the grill (described in US terms here as a broiler) for about five minutes. A sprinkle of sugar before going in will cut the tartness even more and add some sweetness.

Even if you traditionally hate grapefruit, this might turn you around. CHOW also highlights some unique flavourings you can experiment with before you grill the grapefruit.
