Should You Try These Retro Fizzy Drink Concoctions?

Should You Try These Retro Fizzy Drink Concoctions?

I am, unfortunately, one of those perverts who drinks whole milk. I love it, especially when consumed alongside a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, banana, or any kind of chocolate-based dessert. But I’ve also been known to drink a cold glass of milk all by itself as a midnight snack because, again, I am a real weirdo.

But even I have my limits, at least when it comes to beverages, which is why I have never tried the retro dairy-based drinks we’re serving up today. I had heard of Pepsi-Milk (because of Laverne & Shirley), but never mixed one up for myself. Recently, though, at the urging of our EIC Alice Bradley (who is also a big fan of Pepsi-Milk), I decided to finally give it a go, along with 7 Up-Milk (which I saw on Twitter), and hot Dr. Pepper (which is featured in the 1999 Alicia Silverstone vehicle, Blast from the Past).

It was quite the journey. Every sip was a surprise, and my expectations were subverted. I liked what I thought I would hate, and only tolerated what I thought I would love. For the first time ever, Joel and I had a disagreement. (We have since reconciled.)

If nothing else, these weird retro fizzy drink concoctions taught me that some things really have to be tasted to be correctly evaluated. Though you may think you know your palate, heart, and mind, there is always something out there that make you question everything you thought you knew about all three. That’s what happened to me during this taste test, and I am forever changed. (Joel, unfortunately, did not have as good of a time, but he’s not a freak who drinks cow milk on the reg.)
