Use This Webtool To Rip Videos From Tweets And Embed Them In Your Own

Reaction videos are a cultural currency these days — they can punch up your social media posts and have evolved into their own genre of comedy. They’re especially popular on Twitter, but since Twitter doesn’t have a way to save or copy videos from another person’s tweets, it’s hard to reuse a reaction video you found in your own feed (if you don’t want to retweet someone else, that is).

At least, that’s how things used to be before folks in the Glitch app development community created Tripper.

Tripper is a free, desktop-based web tool that lets you rip videos from other people’s tweets and place them in your own. (The name Tripper is a portmanteau of “Twitter video ripper”.) It’s super easy to use, too:

  1. Go to http://twitter-video-ripper.glitch.me/
  2. Copy and paste the link to the tweet with the video you want to rip.
  3. Click “Trip it!”
  4. After the video is converted, you’ll be given a new video link that you can paste into your tweet.

We’d also suggest keeping a running list of links to tweets or videos you might want to use later. Since you aren’t directly downloading and saving a local copy of the video, you’ll need to hold onto the links if you want to easily find them again. And remember to give credit to content creators if you end up using someone else’s original videos.
