We’re deep in the throes of smartphone season, with many of the year’s biggest handsets either already on shelves or mere months away. The Galaxy S10, the OPPO Reno and the Pixel 3a are all excellent upgrades, to name just a few. But of course, a new smartphone is a bit useless without a SIM card inside.

Much like new smartphones, SIM-only plans just keep getting better. If you’re paying more than $25 for 10GB of data, you’re paying too much. And it’s not just tiny telcos offering great deals; Telstra and Optus are getting involved too.

But no matter which provider you prefer, there are awesome plans to be found. So, in no particular order, here are five of our favourite SIM-only plans you can sign-up for right now.

If you’re after a monster data inclusion, Optus has a 100GB SIM-only plan available for $45 per month. Better yet, the plan also comes with 4GB of roaming data per month, which can be used in any of Optus’ “Zone 1” countries. Considering Optus typically charges $10 per 100MB when roaming overseas on a postpaid plan, this deal is an excellent choice for frequent travellers. You’ll need to commit to a 12-month contract for this one. The deal is available until the end of June.

amaysim has a whole new range of plans with some great options, but the clear standout is the telco’s new $30 recharge, which gets you 30GB on a 28-day expiry. You’ll also get unlimited standard international calls to 10 countries. If you’re after a no-contract plan around the $30 mark, it’s hard to do better. amaysim is also powered by the Optus network.

Telstra’s budget brand Belong recently refreshed its plans, doubling data across most of its range. $25 per month now gets you 10GB on a no-contract plan. That might not seem like a lot, but it’s pretty good for the Telstra network. Belong plans all come with data rollover, which means you can save any unused data for a later date. If you manage to stockpile a good chunk of data and want to save money, you can always drop down to Belong’s $10 plan until you burn through your data bank.

If you want access to the full Telstra network, Big T is currently offering new customers $20 off its 60GB plan, bringing the price down to $49 per month. If you manage to burn through your entire allowance, the plan also includes “Peace of Mind” data which gives you unlimited data capped at speeds of 1.5Mbps and no excess usage fees. This plan also requires a one-year commitment. If you’re already with Telstra and want this plan, you’ll pay $59 per month instead.

Jeenee Mobile

If you’re after a plan for less than $20 per month, Jeenee Mobile is hard to beat. $19.90 per month gets you 10GB of data and unlimited talk and text on a 12-month contract. However, you will have to pay a setup fee of $12.37 to get started. Jeenee Mobile is powered by the Optus network.
