How To Turn Your Academy Award’s Predictions Into Cash

I’m a tremendous fan of any opportunity to gamble small amounts of money. I’m not going to spend hundreds of dollars at a weekly poker tournament, but I will bet you $5 I can beat you at a board game or agree to clean up after dinner if my pick on Chopped doesn’t make it to the end of the show.

And so, I’m also a big fan of betting on the Oscars.

If you’re having an Oscars party at your home or watching with friends, then a betting sheet can be an easy way to get in on the fun.

Prop Bets at Your Party

There are a handful of different places you can download these, but my personal favourite of the ones I’ve found is from FanDuel. The site took into account the odds of particular films winning, so for instance, picking a long shot like Yorgos Lanthimos for Best Director will score you 2800 points while picking Spike Lee will only net you 750.

The Official Oscars Game

The actual Oscars is running the Official Oscars Game. With it, you can earn 10 points for each correct prediction you make and 1 point for each poll. The person who has the most points at the end f the show will walk away with $70,116 (or more likely a cut of $70,116).

Tally

My friends and I actually used Tally for our Super Bowl predictions as well. The app is offering a $70,116 prize to the person who makes the most correct predictions within the app. That prize bumps up to $140,233 if 15,000 people decide to play.

The app also has a (Not the) Oscars game where you can bet on everything but the actual awards. Questions include how long the broadcast will be, whether or not anyone will drop something during the show, and how many times Donald Trump gets a mention during the broadcast.

If you’re watching with friends you can create a “Party” within the app so you can track your progress against your friends while also competing against the greater world.
