How To Permanently Downsize Your Wardrobe

Most of us have clothes that we don’t even need, just taking up space and making it harder to decide what to wear every day. A pared down wardrobe that works for almost every occasion, is affordable, and long lasting may be just what we need.

Web designer Timoni West decided that shopping and deciding what to wear everyday was wasting too much of her time and energy, and she didn’t like spending money on clothes. She catalogues how she figured out her ideal everyday, multipurpose outfits — down to what pieces make up this uniform. (This is like the Uniform Project and similar attempts to reduce clothing overload, but with less accessorising and yet more flexibility than wearing just one thing.)

The thought process behind why she picked each piece is enlightening — whether you’re a guy or a gal. For instance, she mainly wears band t-shirts not only because they’re well-designed, but also because “they have the significant advantage of being the one article of clothing that will for sure get cooler as it gets older.”

Also, when she finds pieces she likes, she buys a bunch of them, offering this advice:

If you do find yourself stressed about clothes, just take a step back, look at your wardrobe, think about what you really like to wear — and what you think presents your favourite view of yourself — and then buy 10 of them.

What are your thoughts on going on a clothing diet?
