With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it's time to start planning a fabulous spread for your significant other. Assuming they aren't lactose intolerant, a cheese platter is a pretty good way to go - but only if you don't skimp on quality. As luck would have it, the 2018 Australian Grand Dairy Awards have already done the hard work for you.

The prestigious Australian Grand Dairy Awards represent the highest recognition for any dairy producer in Australia. Each year, the judges taste-test locally produced cheeses across nine categories: Fresh Unripened Cheese, White Mould Cheese, Semi Hard/Eye Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Hard Cheese, Blue Cheese, Washed Rind/Mixed Rind Cheese, Flavoured Cheese and Goat’s/Sheep’s/Buffalo Milk Cheese. There's also an ice cream category, natch.

Here are the winners for 2018. (All products are available from Coles and Woolworths unless otherwise stated.)

I love blue cheese, and would be prepared to be executed by eating too much of it.
