When you store your spices, organise them into “spice kits” so you can quickly pair the best combinations. Follow these guidelines for better quality spice blends:
- Find the freshest spices you can. You’ll get more flavour from fresher spices, so stop by your local store that specialise in bulk spices. If you don’t have a spice store near you, try searching online.
- Toast your spices to coax even more flavour from them. Toast them in a skillet for 1-2 minutes. When they start to brown, remove them from the heat.
- Grind them up as finely as possible. Use a spice grinder (or coffee grinder) to break the spices down into a fine powder. Your results should be a uniform texture with no clumps.
