Taste Test: Kombucha Fermented Fungal Tea Is Worse Than Bin Juice [Video]

Tonicka Kombucha is a health tonic made from fermented fungus and "beneficial" bacteria. We recently tried a bottle only to discover it tastes about as good as it sounds. Here is the video proof.

Tonicka Kombucha is the latest entrant in the fermented tea market. (Yeah, there's actually a market for this stuff.) The ingredients consist of filtered water, certified organic raw sugar, certified organic bancha tea and kombucha culture.

It purports to provide a range of health benefits, including the ability to "revitalise" your gut flora. Yeuck. It also claims to naturally balance your body's pH levels. You can find out more about the beverage on the company's Facebook page.

As the above video attests, it tastes like a mixture of unwashed feet, bin juice and stale vinegar. Definitely an acquired taste.

Kombucha is probably my favourite taste and drink. It's like an even better tasting vinegar. Freaking delicious.
I'm pretty sure if you gave many people beer for the first time they'd have similar reactions.

Additionally it's fermented tea, not fungus. There is a SCOBY/Mother or culture that provides much of the bacteria, much like apple-cider vinegar.

I suspect that might actually be the worst place to find out anything useful about the beverage...

Kombucha: not only does it have zero proven health benefits, but it can hospitalsie or even kill you.

Awesome work, dummies. Tell us more about how you use it to 'purge toxins'.
