This Video Explains 10 Popular Misconceptions About Pregnancy

It's hard to know what to expect when you're expecting, but there's no need to expect these well-known misconceptions. Here's the truth behind some of the biggest myths out there that future mothers and their partners ought to know.

Pregnancy comes with many surprises, but perhaps what is most surprising is the fact that those things you've always heard aren't entirely true. This video from the Mental Floss YouTube channel explains what's behind some of the popular misconceptions out there about pregnancy.

For example, pregnant women can eat fish as long as it's cooked -- and not shark, king mackerel, swordfish, tile fish, marlin, and some tuna varieties -- but fish like salmon are fair game. Additionally, it's also OK for pregnant women to have a cat as long as they don't clean the litter box themselves. Of course, if you're ever curious about the things you've heard through the grapevine -- or have any other questions about pregnancy rules -- always ask your doctor.
