Find Your Life’s Work With A Quick Email

One of the biggest challenges people have is finding their career path — just figuring out what to do in life. A possible solution (or at least way to get closer to an answer): Ask the people closest to you.

Scott Dinsmore of Live Your Legend offers this suggestion:

While in theory no one knows you better than you, oftentimes we get so deep in our own head, thoughts and fears that we subconsciously blind ourselves from seeing the obvious.

So instead of putting all the pressure on yourself, ask the people who know you best. Because sometimes the honest perspective of an outsider is all we need to finally see the light that’s been shining the whole time.

Email five people you trust and who know you well to answer three questions about how they see you, in terms of your strengths, your passions, and the career they’d always thought you’d be great at.

Dinsmore offers an email template you can modify.

This isn’t a foolproof method. It depends on how well the other people know you and whether there are careers you’re failing to consider. But it could be an eye-opening exercise.
