Use A Kitty To Share Group Travel Expenses

Travelling in groups is fun, but keeping track of who has paid for what can become time-consuming and awkward. Avoid the hassle by setting up a group kitty to share travel expenses.

Lifehacker reader Margaret is a tour guide in Italy, so has some experience watching otherwise nice families and friends continually discussing every little expense (“You got lunch yesterday. We’ll buy the tickets tonight!”).

Margaret started instituting a simple kitty system. Each person on the trip pays set amount into the kitty to cover group expenses such lunch, museum tickets, or bus and taxi rides. When the kitty runs out, everyone pays in again. It’s a great way to keep track of how much you are spending without having to stress about who pays for each little thing. It’s also an effective antidote to cheapskates or people who always insists on paying.
