This Week In Smartphone Software Updates: Telstra, Optus, Vodafone

Wondering when the sweet new versions of Android will land on your device? You're in luck: each week, Gizmodo Australia will take you through all of the handset updates currently being tested on Australian mobile networks (Optus, Telstra and Vodafone), and tell you when you can expect them on your device.


• Nokia Lumia 820: PR1.1 Maintenance Release approved, awaiting release by Nokia and Microsoft.

• Samsung Galaxy Note II 4.1.1 Maintenance Release Approved, awaiting release by Samsung.

• Samsung GALAXY S II (Vodafone and 3 Variants) Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Currently in testing.


• HTC One S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean now in first round testing

• Nokia Lumia 800, Lumia 610, HTC Titan 4G, HTC 7 Mozart, HTC HD7, Samsung Omnia W, LG c900k are all update approved but held up by the Microsoft resubmitting a Live Tile update. All but the Titan 4G, Omnia W and LG c90k estimated for delivery on 4/4/2013

• LG Optimus Black Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 now in first round testing

• Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean waiting for initial vendor submission


• No updates to report

    Not that whoever posts these seems to check the comments.. But i'm curious about the obligation of carriers to pass on such updates. I bought my Lumia prepaid from Telstra (and it runs a telstra rom/branding) but I am only getting the major updates through optus.

    Makes me wonder what the requirements are from vendors and carriers when these updates currently are required to be deployed specifically by carriers when the Lumia is currently (and potentially forever) exclusive to Telstra..
