Instagram Direct Offers Private And Group Photo And Video Messaging

Android/iOS: If you’ve ever wished you could send photos or videos to your Instagram friends directly instead of posting them for the whole world to see, Instagram has your back. Instagram Direct, unveiled today, offers private or small-group photo and video sharing, and a new view where you can browse only those privately-shared items.

The video above is more people having fun than anything else, but the feature does a great job of giving you a way to share certain photos with the people you know will enjoy them the most. Now, when you’re ready to share something, you have the option to post it to your followers, or to tap “direct”, where you can select individuals to share your photo or video with. From there, you’ll be able to see who’s viewed it, liked it, and check out the comments from those people. If someone you’re not following sends you something, it will go into your requests, so you can choose whether to view it or not.

Instagram Direct is part of the overall Instagram app, available now for iOS and rolling out to Android users via Google Play. Hit the links below to read more or grab the updated version.
