Xobni Integrates Contacts’ Facebook Feeds
Xobni, a pretty neat Outlook plug-in that’s just out of beta, now includes the latest updates from a Facebook users’ feed in a side panel, making it easier to know what’s happening with your contacts. While Facebook updates have been available for some time, the latest update gives full access to a users’ whole feed. Not seeing it in your Xobni? Clear your Internet Explorer cache and restart Outlook. [Xobni]

Love it. They have made many improvements to the speed. My day to day requires me to be in contact with a couple of dozen people. It is nice to be able to look them up instantly. One of these days I am going to pay for a Skype account to integrate.
I wish they had a version for Entourage.

@BrettKS: yes. in my case it was related to my employer's document management system. the folks there are pretty responsive to problems like that, so i would suggest posting your issue. xobni is super useful in my day-to-day work, so I ended up losing the document management system anyway. :)

I wondered why some of my contacts suddenly had pictures, but how does it get the contacts' full feed of people I'm not friends with if I've never given Xobni my login info?

I tried xobni after the last post on LH but it seemed to slow down my outlook a bit too much. Anyone else experience this?
Xobni plays by the rules of Facebook security, right?
I have almost everything locked down to friends only, and the rest is limited to friends of friends.
So anyone outside of that group cannot see what I have locked down, correct?
@BrettKS: When I *first* installed Xobni, it did seem to slow things down, but now I haven't noticed much drop.

I've been using Xobni for a few weeks now and LOVE it... I don't use it so much for the social aspect though I see the value in that. IMO it's got the best free search capability for Outlook that I've seen.

@geeky_reader: This feature is almost definitely implemented with the recently added Facebook Connect feature that allows Facebook streams to be implemented in other applications. This feature fully respects all Facebook privacy settings as stated in the Facebook blog.

IMHO Xobni is committing suicide - they are focusing on consumer-level functionality, while consumer-level email is rapidly becoming exclusively web-based. It doesn't take all my fingers to count the number of people I know that still use Outlook or Thunderbird to access their personal mail, and that number is decreasing. Pretty soon Xobni will realize that by including non-enterprise-friendly features such as Facebook and Skype, and using clown-colors it has gotten itself locked out from medium and large businesses, losing the majority of world's Outlook userbase. I am saddened to see it go, it was a very exciting product with a great potential when it entered the beta, but I cannot allow this on my network.

I don't know about most people but I use Outlook for my business email only. None of my customers are my FB Friends and I really don't want to spend any part of my day learning about their personal lives.
I charge these people for my time and, were it reversed, I'm sure they don't want to know how cute my dog is when he's sleeping (e.g.). Professional relationships. When I see them in person, I make polite smalltalk while getting my job done. That's enough for them and me.
@Xanderificus: I with you on this. Outlook is used exclusively for work email for me. I like being told which of my contacts has a LinkedIn profile, but Facebook interaction was the first things I disabled when I re-installed.
