Just because you've waited until the very last minute doesn't mean you don't care. Well, it kind of does - but your better half doesn't need to know that. Here are some quick-fix Valentine's Day gifts that should help to keep you out of the dog house.

Valentine's Day is possibly the worst day of the year for the lonely hearts out there. Chances are if you're reading this site you have some idea of how to use online dating to your advantage, but not like this guy does. For anonymity's sake, we'll call him Eros, and what he has created is nothing short of god-like: a way for the tech savvy to exploit loopholes in the dating site RSVP to get more dates with people you actually like. This is how to hack a dating site to your advantage.

You've forgotten Valentine's Day again, haven't you? Time to make a decision: do you scramble for a meaningful gift in a desperate, last-minute frenzy? Do you hand over some tatty supermarket flowers and accept your fate with a rueful grin? Or do you launch into a clearly improvised diatribe against the commercialisation of romance and hope for the best? Alternatively, you could pay someone else a small fee to sort the whole thing out for you.

The idea that a man doing housework will put his partner in the mood for love is often repeated , but is there any scientific backing for it? Professor Rob Brooks from the University of New South Wales examines the evidence.

Love knows no grammar. I don't advise dumping someone purely because they write "happy valentines day" on your card. But if the relationship is already teetering, that could be the final straw. Avoid unnecessary heartache by getting the spelling and punctuation right.

Dear Lifehacker, Valentine's Day is coming up and to be honest I have no idea what to get my partner. I've looked online and most of the ideas revolve around home decor (apparently 'mandles' aka man candles are a trend) and personal grooming. However, my partner is well kept and giving him a candle just seems like a way to give him something I would like. My partner loves tech (Optimus 4X HD for Christmas, Asus Transformer Prime for his birthday) and a well thought out, useful (and practical) gift. Any ideas? Tech Bella

Tumblr is known as a social platform designed for sharing, re-sharing, and general public display. However, there's a less-used feature that also makes it a wonderful platform to communicate in a much more personal way -- its private blog feature. You can create a private blog full of love and inspiration especially for a specific person, be it a friend who's having a rough day, your mum on her birthday, or your sweetheart on Valentine's Day. It's super easy, it's free, it's fast and, according to the first person I made one for, it's the best gift ever.
