It’s been a couple of months since Facebook started its revamp of Messenger. The old version was getting increasingly cluttered so Facebook ran the broom through. Now, they’re back to adding features but in a less haphazard way than before. Starting today, a number of new enhancements to photos are making an appearance.
Facebook has added native support for looping Boomerang videos, a Selfie mode that automatically blurs backgrounds, and an augmented reality feature that lets you add Messenger’s stickers in your photos and videos.
That gives Messenger five camera modes wth regular photos and videos also available.

The Boomerang feature was formerly in a separate app but as the photography features in Facebook’s sibling Instagram make their way into Messenger we’re seeing a blurring of the lines between what the different products can do. Back in 20102, when Facebook purchased Instagram, the plan was for the two products to remain separate. While that still seems to be the case, we’re seeing features from one platform leak into the other.
Facebook’s unsend messages is still not in wide use although the feature is now being tested in Poland, Bolivia, Colombia and Lithuania with a global release expected soon.
