Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers can now buy software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions through the AWS Marketplace. The software on offer runs on a pay-as-you-go consumption model with no recurring costs and services that are used will be billed on a customer’s AWS bill. There are a number of SaaS and API products on offer. Here’s what you need to know.
With AWS Marketplace SaaS Subscriptions, the public cloud vendor wants to make it easier for existing customers to acquire additional SaaS offerings by putting it all onto their existing bill. It also simplifies the process of comparing each of the offerings side-by-side.
Services are generally charged per unit: “For example, you can buy security services on a per-host basis, log processing on a per-GB-ingested basis, geocoding on a per-request basis, or caching on a per-GB-cached basis.” Payments will be passed on to the software vendors although we’re not sure whether AWS gets a cut of it.
