We’re going to see a lot of subscription services announcements this week, largely triggered by Netflix’s official launch on November 24. Getting in ahead of the Netflix noise, Telstra is offering Foxtel’s Presto streaming service free to all Telstra T-Box customers for six months.
Anyone can trial Presto free for a month, but offering six months free access is presumably designed to stop some existing T-Box customers deciding to sample another service such as Netflix or Stan or Quickflix. Viewing on T-Box over a Telstra home broadband connection (which is what every T-Box owner has) will also be unmetered, meaning it won’t count against your monthly data allowance. The deal applies to new and existing customers.
If you already own a T-Box (a group Telstra says numbers in the hundreds of thousands), it would seem silly not to take up the offer. You can access by visiting channel 911 on your T-Box and following the prompts. Just make sure to note the date when the six free months are up and cancel the service after that if you don’t want to pay for it.
If you’re on Optus, there’s a somewhat similar six-month deal happening with Netflix.

I have a 2 month trial of Presto through my Chromecast but will be dusting off my old t-Box to get another 6 months. Probably won’t carry on after that, I can’t believe that Foxtel customers still have to pay full whack for Presto when we’re already throwing money at them.
what netflix should have done was not released that they would be opening up to australia.
not said anything at all, come opening day, run some TV ads / internet ads.
that would have caught telstra off guard…
someone get this marketing genius a company to start running.
Angus, I presume you mean March 24, i.e. tomorrow…
