Now here’s something you don’t see every day: Virgin Mobile has announced a premium mobile phone plan that includes a “free” return international flight to a popular holiday destination with Virgin Australia. Locations include New Zealand, Fiji and Vanuatu.

Virgin Mobile’s $140 “Irresistible Plan” marks the company’s first serious attempt to integrate various Virgin-related brands into one consumer package.
The plan’s biggest claim to fame is the inclusion of a return international flight through airline partner Virgin Australia from selected capital cities across Australia (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra). Virgin Mobile has yet to divulge a full list of available flights, but the destinations will include New Zealand, Fiji and Vanuatu.
The plan also provides the ability to rollover your unused credit to the next month and access to Optus’ 4G network. Customers can also opt to receive an early handset upgrade after 12 months when they re-sign to the plan for an additional 24 months. Customers can also bag up to $100 worth of mobile credit when they sign up for Virgin Money products and a Discovery Club membership with Virgin Wines.
The Virgin Mobile Irresistible Plan includes unlimited calls and SMS, $200 of plan credit for standard international calls and text and 6GB of data for $140 a month. The minimum total cost of the plan is $3,3605 over 24 months.
While undoubtedly on the steep side, the above plan actually compares favorably to Telstra’s premium consumer offering — the $130 Every Day Connect plan only provides 3GB of monthly data and obviously does not include a return international flight.

I have the $130 Telstra plan with 3GB included, I never thought I would see the day that I would use 3GB of data on my phone. No tethering, all mobile handset usage. It’s at the stage now when I hit 100% of quota about 3 weeks into the month….So for me, this Virgin plan actually shapes up pretty well.
Wow. I pay $19 per month for my Virgin plan, I get 2.25Gb quota per month. Admittedly, I very very rarely make phonecalls, I’m almost exclusively a data & text user – so I was able to get a plan that offers hardly any call credit and still be very happy with it. Also, I snatched the plan during a short-lived virgin promotion that said “Sign up in the next 3 weeks and we’ll give you an extra 2GB/month quota on any plan for the life of your plan”.
When virgin mobile was new, i remember the plan i got ($50 per month) came with a $100 Virgin Blue voucher each year, though i don’t think i ever actually used it before i lost it.
Virgin have previously integrated business units. In the days of Virgin Home Loans (in approx 2007) they were giving away return flight for two anywhere in Australia.
