You can dress for success and network like crazy, but if you want to get ahead in your career, start by being friendly to your colleagues. A survey of 400 Australians by LinkedIn ranked being liked by co-workers as the most important skill for making progress in your career, with 75 per cent choosing that option.

That doesn’t mean you can ignore other factors. Dressing appropriately for your job and being conscious of your appearance is also seen as important, with 69 per cent choosing that option. A good relationship with the boss was close behind (66 per cent), while networking and attending events didn’t muster the same degree of enthusiasm (39 per cent).
