Flickr user Anand Bongir didn’t need a lot of information on his desktop, just some basics like the time and date, system status and a search box. He combined a gorgeous scenic wallpaper with a few Rainmeter widgets and great colour choice to produce an elegant desktop that keeps the data out of the way but always available.
If you want the same look for your Windows desktop, here’s what you’ll need.
- The Fishing wallpaper from Wallbase
- The Rainmeter system monitor and configuration tool for Windows, and the Illustro skin (which is installed with it)
- The Cowon clock from DeviantArt
That’s pretty much all you need. Rainmeter handles the system monitor and the search bar and tools on the right, and the Cowon clock is on the left. Hide the taskbar and you have the exact same desktop. If you still need help getting started with Rainmeter, check out our tutorial to the tool for tips. Mac or Linux users can get similar effects using GeekTool (Mac) or Conky (Linux).
