Maybe It’s Time to Trade Your Bath Towel in for a Bath Sheet

All bath towels are not created equal. In fact, some are so large and offer so much coverage that they’re actually called bath sheets. If you’ve never owned a bath sheet but know yourself to be the type who enjoys being wrapped up in a cocoon of large, comfy covers, it might be time to give a bath sheet a try. On the other hand, if all you need is a quick dry right out of the shower, a standard bath towel is probably enough. The size of your bathroom — and the size of the person using said towel or sheet — also matters.

Here’s the difference between a bath towel and a bath sheet — and how to decide which is right for you.

What is a bath sheet?

Bath sheets are made of the same material as a towel, but they tend to be about ten inches wider and longer than your average bath towel. This extra room offers damn near 100% coverage when hopping out of the shower (not to mention added comfort). The extra fabric means more absorbency, and it’s a good choice for those who like to wrap up in a towel while they get ready.

How to decide whether you need a bath sheet or towel

To figure out whether a towel or a sheet is right for you, ask yourself these questions:

  • When you get out of the shower, do you notice your towel is soaked before you’ve even fully dried off? (A sheet may be the answer.)
  • Does your bath sheet never seem to fully dry out? Does it sweep the floor? (The sheet may be too large for your space.)
  • Do you like full coverage when you wrap yourself up? (Trade that towel in for a sheet.)

When is a bath towel best?

Bath towels are great for kids who don’t need all that extra cloth that you enjoy, or for small dogs who would probably get lost in all the folds of a bath sheet. They also work best for smaller bathrooms are low on storage or drying space. It doesn’t hurt to have a mix of both, though. Bath towels for the small beings and small spaces; bath sheets for when you crave the larger size and absorbency.
