Dealhacker: Download ‘Company Of Heroes 2’ For Free This Weekend

It’s the weekend, which means it’s time you downloaded a new video game. And as it happens there’s a really good PC game available right now for free. To celebrate the game’s five-year anniversary, Sega is giving Company of Heroes 2 away for free on Steam all weekend long, and lowered the price of its many expansions by 75 per cent — most of them are now under five dollars.

Company of Heroes 2 is a real-time strategy game set in World War II on the Eastern front — Russia vs. the Nazis. You position squads of troops to out-manoeuvre and outgun your opponent, while contending with the brutal Russian winter. If you pick up the expansions, you can also as the US and British armies, as well.

I would recommend playing through the single-player campaign to get a feel for the game before playing online. Five-year-old multiplayer games tend to be populated primarily by die-hard fans who will, simply put, kick your butt. Then again, maybe with an influx of new players there will be some fresh blood out there.

When you download games through Steam, you’ll have access to both the PC and Mac versions of the game, so don’t worry about that. Just make sure to at least claim it on your account before Monday, December 10, at 10am PT, when the offer ends.
