When I travel, I typically like to stay out late and sleep in as long as possible in the mornings. My boyfriend, on the other hand, likes to get up at 7am and get a start on the day. By the time my real wake up time has happened he’s had time to get breakfast, explore the area around the hotel and is comfortably putzing around on his laptop waiting for me to finally join the living.
From our hotel stays I’ve learned one fact: all hotel doors are loud.
Honestly, my biggest issue is typically with people staying near us who just let their doors slam as they enter and exit their rooms at all hours of the day and night, but the actual room door can also be a bit problematic sometimes.
Travel blogger Johnny Jet recently posted a video solution to the problem, which involves using your key card to “unlock” the door before you close it and then slowly closing it.
The practice eliminates that loud click you typically get when you close a hotel door, although it is still audible. So, while it’s not going to make your exit entirely stealth, if you’re staying with a light sleeper and want to escape the room for a bit it could make your exit draw a little less attention.

One response to “Use This Trick To Close A Hotel Door Quietly”
In case anyone was wondering, turning the handle as you close it works on all doors, not just those in hotels.
The point being here, most hotel door handles do not move as they are always locked, so the unlock method allows the handle to work and then close the door quietly. Been doing this for yesrs.
