Keep Hard-Boiled Eggs As A Quick, Healthy Snack

Keep Hard-Boiled Eggs As A Quick, Healthy Snack

The last time we checked in for our staff’s Weekly Upgrades, our editors were embracing the joys of the radio, investing in gear for outdoor adventures, experimenting with lunch subscriptions, and slathering garlic honey on various foodstuffs.

This week, our self-improvement efforts range from kitchen hacks to beauty tips to dipping a toe in the wide world of RPG games.

What upgrades did you make this week? Let us know in the comments.

Foam Roll Your Troubles Away

“I’ve got a terrible case of Desk Job Body problems — tight shoulders, stiff neck, tight hips, generally bad lower back, tight hamstrings, you name it. Going to yoga a few times a week helps, but I think daily upkeep is really the key to fending off the ravages of time. That in mind, I finally sprang for a foam roller to have at home. I’m still working into making this an every-morning-and-every-night habit, but doing a few basic moves (in particular for my upper back, quads and hamstrings) for a couple of minutes a day makes a surprisingly big difference already.” – Virginia K. Smith, Managing Editor

Find an Easier Way to Explore RPG Games

“I started running a pen and paper RPG game for my friends called Fate Accelerated Edition: It takes all the fun stuff from other RPGs like making cool characters, acting things out, and going on exciting adventures, but cuts away a lot of the complicated rules and systems so you can just focus on the story you and your friends want to tell. Highly recommended if you’ve always wanted to play something like Dungeons & Dragons but always been afraid of how complex it seems!” – Patrick Allan, Staff Writer

Keep a Stash of Hard-Boiled Eggs in Your Fridge at All Times

“After making a ton of hard-boiled eggs for a story earlier this week, I have found that having hard-boiled eggs around greatly improves my quality of life, as they are a quick source of protein that I can eat without having to stop and cook anything. They’re delicious, and I can have devilled eggs for dinner, which I did last night.” – Claire Lower, Staff Writer

Put a ‘Collection Bowl’ by Your Front Door

“Last week I finally grew tired of my daily hunt for my misplaced glasses and wallet before heading off to work. The whole “retrace your steps” method of locating my valuables was tired, and I could feel the wasted seconds accumulate over time. So I added a small collection bowl to my home, right next to my door. Now, I come home, dump the essential items in a bowl, and deal with the detritus accordingly thanks to a small garbage bin tucked in a nearby corner. One week in and I’ve yet to misplace any of my essentials. I don’t miss hunting for my wallet, either.” – Patrick Austin, Staff Writer

Excavate Your Pores with Charcoal

“I did a charcoal peel-off face mask for the first time, and it was both bewildering and disgusting to see the icicle-like lines of gunk that have been inhabiting my face all these months (years?). My husband did one, too, and he showed me his mask remnants. We stared at each other’s whiteheads in the sunlight. (Yep, this is romance after seven years.) My skin feels softer, and I plan to do it again in a week or so. I used this mask but there are a ton of different options online.” – Michelle Woo, Staff Writer
