Android: Google Maps can remember a lot of things for you, like where you live or your favourite restaurants. However, it doesn’t remember your preferences to avoid toll roads or highways by default. Fix that with this Tasker action.

Forum site XDA has created a downloadable Tasker action that you can use to intercept voice commands like “navigate to home”. It will pass your command to Google Maps, but add the parameters to avoid toll roads, highways or ferries. You can customise the Tasker action based on which ones you’d like to avoid. It’s a handy little tweak that can make your commute that much easier. Check out the XDA post below for instructions on how to download and use it.

Automatically Avoid Tolls in Google Maps with Tasker [XDA]

  • I don’t understand why google doesn’t just either default to avoid tolls or remembers what your preference is. Was it some deal they made with local and state governments to get data off of them? I would think the vast majority would want to avoid tolls and would only be looking for the toll roads occasionally but what do I know.
