Turn A Napkin Into A Basket In A Pinch

You may not have a basket to carry the bread, or other small items, from the kitchen to the table, but if you have a napkin, you have all you need. A couple of quick folds and you have something that looks as good as it gets the job done.

Besides serving food, this little napkin basket is handy for holding knick knacks or for drawing slips, like for a gift exchange. Check out the video above for a demo. If you can’t watch, here’s what to do.

  1. Lay the napkin on a flat surface with the outer side facing down. Fold the top and bottom edges in about an inch.
  2. Fold the top and bottom edges toward the center of the napkin again, but with larger folds, so that the edges meet in the middle.
  3. Turn the napkin over and fold the sides in so that they meet. You can tuck the edges inside each other and safety pin them together so your basket doesn’t come apart.

Your basket is ready to fill with whatever you want. If you plan to use it for serving, you may want to place it on a small plate to make it easier to pass around.
