Use The ‘Pick Two’ Rule To Watch Your Kilojoules When Dining Out

Staying on that healthy eating train sure is difficult when you’re dining out and everything sounds amazing. Rather than depriving yourself or blowing off the hinges to a full-on cheat meal, just limit yourself by picking only two things you’d really want to eat.

The “pick two rule” is a self-regulation tactic that helps you control the urge to binge and be more mindful of your choices. It works like this: You can eat or drink whatever you want, but it can only be two items.

Choose wisely between bread, chips, alcohol, ice cream or whatever kind of dessert. You might be better off picking a sensible entree and one other thing so that you can feel full and satisfied.

Apply this in any social setting where you might be around foods you love but want to moderate yourself, whether that’s at a restaurant, a party with a huge spread, a buffet at a wedding and so on. Pick two items and just stick to eating those two things, because “nibbling” on everything is a good way to grossly underestimate calories and may even trigger a “Eff this” binge.
