Google is keen to recruit more .NET developers and IT administrators onto its Cloud Platform. Enter Cloud Tools for PowerShell, a collection of new cmdlets for PowerShell that they can use easily manage their Windows workloads on the platform. Here’s what you need to know.
PowerShell is a command line shell and scripting language built on the .NET Framework from Microsoft. It’s commonly used for automating tasks and configuration management on Windows Servers and is a popular tool with IT administrator and .NET developers.
Google’s Cloud Tools for PowerShell aggregates a bunch of cmdlets (single function commands) that can be used to access and manipulate Google Cloud Platform resources. It’s currently in beta and allows access to Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage, Google Cloud SQL and Google Cloud DNS.
.NET developers and IT administrators can script, automate and manage Windows workloads that are running on the Google Cloud Platform by using Cloud Tools for PowerShell directly from the command line. They can then use PowerShell’s scripting environment to customise workflows using the Windows tools they are already familiar with.
PowerShell cmdlets come as part of the Cloud SDK for Windows and new ones are added in every update. Cloud Tools For PowerShell is free to all Google Cloud Platform customers.
You can head over to the Google Cloud Platform blog for detailed instructions on how to use the new tools.
