Tweedle Makes Twitter Simple, Stable And Beautiful For Free

Android: It’s surprising that Tweedle for Twitter is free given that it looks and feels like a premium app with its polished design, stable and fast performance, and sheer ease of use.

While Falcon Pro is our current pick for the best Twitter client for Android, it isn’t free. In fact, most free apps on Twitter either have annoying intrusive ads, very limited functionality, or look like they were designed in the 1990s.

Tweedle bucks the trend by going toe-to-toe with premium apps without sacrificing features. There are still ads, but they show up only when you tap a tweet for the Conversation View. Ads can be dismissed forever with an in-app payment, but really, there’s no reason to do that — this is almost an ad-free app.

So what do you get for an ad-free experience? A basic Twitter client with a beautiful design inspired by Google Cards, complete with Roboto fonts. You can customise the theme of the app however you want with very simple Theme settings. It’s fast, it’s fluid, it’s gorgeous — as good as any Android Twitter client. And it’s very stable too. In a week of constantly fiddling with it, it hasn’t crashed even once, which I can’t say for many Android Twitter apps.

Apart from the default Home, Mentions and Messages columns, you can add other columns such as favourites, retweets, trends, search and lists. You can also filter out keywords and customise notifications (audio, vibrate, LED). As well, Tweedle supports multiple accounts, inline media previews, inline TwitLonger and comes with an internal Web browser.

There is one big missing feature in Tweedle that will put off power users though: it doesn’t auto-refresh the timeline. When you start the app, you will have to manually update it with the common pull-to-refresh gesture,.

Still, Tweedle is perfect for average Twitter users who want a better interface and a few more features than the default Twitter app, without getting overwhelmed by choices and settings.
