Plug Is A Tiny, Good-Looking Hype Machine Player For Mac

Mac: If your quest for new, good music regularly takes you to The Hype Machine, save yourself a browser tab and download Plug. The app is a beautiful Hype Machine client that plays all of the latest and popular tracks, your favourites, supports the Mac’s media keys, and keeps useful info in the menu bar.

Plug is one of the better-looking Hype Machine clients we’ve seen. It puts a tiny icon in the menubar that gives you a visual cue to time remaining. If you click it, you’ll see the name of the song playing along with time elapsed and time remaining. You can also control playback from the menubar icon, but you can also use your Mac’s media keys to pause, fast forward or replay a track.

The interface itself is simple, with icons for popular, favourite and newly uploaded songs on the left, along with album art and songs to hear on the right. There’s a persistent player at the bottom you can use to control volume or change tracks. Hover over a track name to add it to your favourites, or open it up in a browser window at Hype Machine.

Plug is free while it’s in beta. When it finally launches, it will probably end up on the App Store and cost a few bucks to download.
