Turn A Raspberry Pi Into A Google Calendar Clock

The great thing about the Pi is its flexibility. Sure, you could use it to learn software development, as per the original design specification. Or you could turn it into a alarm clock, powered by your Google Calendar entries.

The process involves the Google Data APIs Python Client Library polling your calendar for events labelled as “wake” (so presumably George Michael would hate this thing), and then playing a predetermined song whenever the phrase occurs. It’s an interesting hack, because of course it doesn’t rely on actually interfacing with the Pi once it’s set up; all you need to do is access Google Calendar on any device and set your alarm from there.
